Is AT&T’s VPN Worth It?
AT&T provides access to a VPN via its AT&T ActiveArmor security suite, which also includes access to caller ID tools, identity monitoring, and a malicious website blocker. Depending on what AT&T subscription you have, you’ll get free access to the VPN, or you’ll need to pay for it.
Our research shows AT&T’s VPN is secure, but overall pretty basic. It encrypts your traffic and hides your IP address, but that’s about it. You don’t get access to extra features like you do with most top VPNs, like split-tunneling, double VPN servers, or obfuscation. Also, you can only use the VPN on up to five devices, which is pretty restrictive — most good VPNs allow up to 10 connections.
Overall, we only really recommend using AT&T’s VPN if you have free access to it, and if you only need basic VPN protection. Otherwise, it’s best to get a premium standalone VPN, like NordVPN or Surfshark.
