We know PeopleWhiz says it only gathers publicly available information, and that’s true. If the information is already publicly available, why should you care about it being on PeopleWhiz’s website? Well, they aggregate all of your publicly available information and sell it to anyone as a package. That makes it a whole lot easier for anyone to learn about all of your personal information whether they’re an identity thief, stalker or advertiser.
While we’re going to show you how to opt out of PeopleWhiz today, there are hundreds of other sites just like it. So, we recommend using a data removal service that automatically opts you out of these sites. There are simply too many of them to do it all yourself. We were most impressed when we tested Incogni due to its fast results, although it’s not the only top-tier data removal service.
Now that you know there’s an easier way to opt out of hundreds of people search sites like PeopleWhiz, let’s go over the free, manual way to opt out.
FYI: We’ve created tons of opt out guides for other people search sites and data brokers as well. Follow our guides on opting out of LexisNexis, opting out of FamilyTreeNow, and opting out of PeopleLooker to get your information off of three popular people search sites.
What is PeopleWhiz?
PeopleWhiz is a massive people search site that boasts a database of over 67 billion records. That includes everything from contact information gathered off of public documents and social media sites to addresses taken from property permits. Basically, if it’s available somewhere online, even if it’s through a county clerk’s office, PeopleWhiz likely has a record of it.
The fact that they have this information isn’t too much of an issue considering anyone could get the information they have with enough effort. The issue comes from what they do with the data. Instead of someone needing to spend countless hours tracking down each piece of information, someone can buy the whole package directly from PeopleWhiz. That time-saving can make an identity thief’s business model profitable. It can also help stalkers and harassers keep up with your current contact info and address.
Overall, PeopleWhiz is not a site we want our information on.

How We Opted Out of PeopleWhiz
Now let’s opt out of PeopleWhiz to make our personal information more private. We took screenshots of the entire process so you can follow along.
How to Remove Your Data Manually From PeopleWhiz
Removing our information from PeopleWhiz took a bit longer than other people search sites we’ve opted out of. For instance, when we opted out of Spokeo, they removed our data in less than two days. PeopleWhiz took five days to process our request and then another 24 to 48 hours to remove our data from their servers. Here’s how we did it:
1. Before we could start the actual opt out process, we needed to find the opt out page. We only found it listed at the very bottom of their site in the footer with a link called “Remove My Info.” In case you’re having a hard time finding it, we circled it in red below.
2. Next up, you’ll need to locate your listing on the opt out page. But, you don’t just type in your name in the search bar on the “Remove My Info” page. PeopleWhiz tries to get tricky here. Instead, click the “Here” link in the first header on the “Remove My Info” page. Once again, we circled it in red to make it easier for you to find.
3. Finally, we made it to the actual opt out page. On this page, search your name and include the city and state you live in. Then, hit the “Search Now” button.
4. You might get more than one result, although we only got one. If more than one person lives in your town with the same name, expect to see multiple results. Click the one that fits your past addresses, age and relatives.
5. After finding your record and clicking “That’s Me,” input your email address in the next window then click the next button.
6. This is the trickiest step. After giving PeopleWhiz your email address, they request an image of a valid ID in your name. We don’t appreciate a people search site operating in morally, and sometimes legally, gray areas. But, to manually opt out, you need to provide it.
7. After uploading an image of your ID, PeopleWhiz processes your request. They say it can take up to a week to process. In our experience, that’s just about right. Once they finish, they’ll email you verifying your records have been removed.

Phew! That was a process. PeopleWhiz was one of the most difficult manual opt outs we’ve completed, and we’ve done a lot of them. It’s the first time we’ve had to upload an image of our ID to get our information removed from a people search site. We didn’t even need to do that when opting out of TruthFinder, one of the biggest people search sites.
Pro Tip: After opting out of PeopleWhiz, we needed a few easy wins — and we imagine you feel the same way. That’s why we put together a list of five easy opt outs to protect your identity and privacy. We promise they’re not nearly as difficult as PeopleWhiz!
Use Data Removal Sites and Services to Opt Out of PeopleWhiz
If the process for manually removing your data from PeopleWhiz isn’t your idea of fun (it isn’t ours either), then you can use a data removal service instead. These services automatically opt you out of hundreds, if not thousands, of people search sites and data brokers like PeopleWhiz. And best of all, you won’t need to upload a picture of your driver’s license because we consider that a risk to our identity.

But not all services are created equal. And since you’ll need to give them some of your information for them to opt you out of people search sites and data brokers, you want a company you can trust. That’s why our top choice is Incogni.
It’s made by the same company that makes our favorite VPN service and one of our favorite antivirus software, Surfshark. They use some of the strongest encryption and security standards available today. Take a look at our Surfshark review for a detailed breakdown of why they earned our trust.
Based on our tests of Optery and our tests of Kanary, we recommend them as well. Where Incogni gave us fast results, Optery and Kanary were a bit more thorough. Optery gave us the option to send them sites we wanted our information removed from and Kanary maintains a database of over 1,000 people search sites and data brokers that they scanned for our data. Check out our Optery vs. Incogni and Kanary vs. Incogni comparison guides for a detailed breakdown.
One week into using Kanary, the service only removed our profiles from three data brokers; within the same time frame, Incogni removed over 100.
FYI: We tested a lot more than just these three data removal services. Another one that stood out to us was DeleteMe due to its manual process. But that meant it took a lot longer to get results. In our review of DeleteMe, we detail our entire experience with it. Then, see how it stood up against a fully automated service in our DeleteMe vs. Incogni comparison.
Incogni makes it easy to search for your information and remove it from PeopleWhiz.
Why Should You Opt Out of PeopleWhiz?
The biggest reason to opt out of PeopleWhiz is to protect your identity. Having all of your personal details readily available to anyone willing to pay about $25 puts your identity at risk. Identity thieves use sites like PeopleWhiz to bypass security questions and get the information they need to social engineer access into your accounts. For instance, PeopleWhiz lists your relatives. So, if one of your security questions is your mother’s maiden name, buying your PeopleWhiz records will give the identity thief the answer.

Beyond identity thieves, your information on PeopleWhiz makes it easier for harassers or stalkers to keep track of where you currently live. They can also keep up to date on your current phone number, email and other forms of contact. Plus, we just don’t feel comfortable with all of our information so readily accessible online, and neither should you.
Did You Know: We always recommend making room in your monthly budget for a high-quality identity theft protection service. These tools give you a fail-safe in case someone successfully steals your identity. They’ll cover your expenses and help you get back control over your identity.
Recap: How to Opt Out of PeopleWhiz
When you decide to opt out of PeopleWhiz, make sure to plan a relaxing activity afterwards. It’s a fairly frustrating process with plenty of points where they try to divert you off task. Whether it’s the difference between their “Remove My Info” and “Opt Out” pages or their requirement of submitting proof of your ID, every step felt like pulling teeth.
